The Pekin or White Pekin is a domesticated duck used primarily for egg and meat production and was bred from the Mallard in China. They are characterized by a yellow bill, creamy white plumage (sometimes with a yellowish tinge) with orange shanks and toes. Ducklings have a bright yellowish plumage. They are hardy and climate and disease resistant. Fast growers and excellent for meat purpose and are easy to manage.
The one day old ducks weigh about 40-50g in average and the fully grown bird weighs about 2-2.5 kg in 8 weeks. From around 40-45 days, the ducks are set for laying eggs and their annual egg production is about 150-200 eggs. Also they have a high feed conversion ratio of 1:2.3-2.7.

The vaccination schedule during the growth of ducks are as follows. At 30 days, the ducks are given a dose ofDuck Cholera Vaccine and are administered with a Subcutaneous injection. Then between 35-40 days, Duck Viral Hepatitis and Subcutaneous injection are injected into the ducks. Around 45-50 days, Duck Plague Vaccine is induced into them along with a Subcutaneous injection. Also they should be administered by trained technician or veterinary supervision throughout. Deworming should be done once in 2 months as directed by veterinarian.
